Taiwan Ministry of Digital Affairs — AERKOMM awarded Satellite Service Operators Licence.

AERKOMM Taiwan Inc. has received a Satellite Service Operators Licence from Taiwan’s Ministry of Digital Affairs, becoming one of a small number of licensed satellite service providers in the country — and the only NGSO (Non-Geostationary Orbit) Service Operation Licence holder in Taiwan.

Review process

The Ministry of Defence and National Communications Commission (“NCC”) established a Radio Frequency Review Committee for Satellite Fixed Communications to evaluate AERKOMM’s application. The committee included experts across communications, finance, and information security, with professional advice from regulatory bodies.

What the licence enables

With this operating licence, AERKOMM can offer land services in Taiwan and aero/maritime services globally — positioning the company for International Telecommunications Union (“ITU”) membership. AERKOMM has appointed EJECTT Inc. as its full-rights agent in Taiwan and Asia.

Partnership with SES

AERKOMM will leverage SES’s O3b mPOWER — a next-generation MEO communications system — for services targeting data-centre trunking, mobile backhaul, and other space-tech markets. O3b mPOWER services were scheduled to launch globally in Q3 2023, and became commercially available in Taiwan on June 1, 2023.
