AERKOMM Taiwan Inc. — a subsidiary of AERKOMM Inc. USA — and SES have announced that MEO satellite connectivity services are now commercially available in Taiwan. The launch marks the first commercial availability of SES’s Medium-Earth-Orbit constellation in the country.

The service

AERKOMM Taiwan holds a commercial satellite communications frequency licence from Taiwan’s Ministry of Digital Affairs, authorizing it to provide connectivity via non-geostationary satellites. Under the partnership with SES, AERKOMM Taiwan will deliver high-throughput, ultra-flexible, carrier-grade connectivity via SES’s O3b and second-generation O3b mPOWER constellations from even the most remote regions across Taiwan.

Why it matters

MEO sits between LEO’s low latency and GEO’s coverage economics — well suited to the mix of government, maritime, and aviation demand that AERKOMM Taiwan is targeting. First commercial availability of O3b mPOWER in Taiwan means the first time carrier-grade MEO capacity is on the ground for local operators and government customers, rather than only available across other regional markets.
